December 2003:
Residents Donate To Community Programs
Thanks go out to a group of ladies at the Pitkat Congregate Living
Center. Known as the "Busy Fingers", they had been working for months
creating fine knitted items that they planned to donate to various social
services during the Holidays.
We are happy to say that over 80 lap robes and a goodly number of knitted
hats found their way to the less fortunate during this period. Items
were delivered to Riverview Hospital for Children in Middletown, Vernon
Social Services, the Hockanum Valley Community Center, the Potter's House
Child Development Center and the Institute of Living Children's Unit.
Thanks also goes out to residents of other VHA locations who contributed
items for the cause.
March 2004:
Inter-Generational Program Begins
Residents of the Pitkat Congregate Living Center and students from the
Peer Advocacy Program at Rockville High School met for the first time on
March 4, 2004 to "kick-off" what we expect will be a long term relationship.
Residents and students met in small groups to get to know one another
better, discussing a wide array of interesting topics. Next steps;
principals from each group will get together soon to develop an "action
plan" for the future. We all look forward to a mutually rewarding
collaboration. For further information on this exciting endeavor,
contact Allan Duran at the Pitkat
Congregate Living Center. More to come in the future!
